Media Release

Over the weekend State and Territory executives from the Design and Technology
Teachers Association of Australia met in Melbourne for their Annual General Meeting.

One of the most exciting agenda items over the weekend was deciding who would win the National Design and Technology Teacher of the Year award. This annual award is given to an exceptional teacher of Design and Technology, someone who displays passion and commitment to the education of our young people.
The competition was strong this year with worthy nominations from across Australia, making the process of selecting a winner that much more difficult.

After lengthy deliberation, Patricia Hynes from the Centre for Creative Industries Box Hill Institute of TAFE in Melbourne received the award. Patricia has been an innovative and passionate teacher since 1973 and a leader in Design and Technology education reform and ongoing professional learning. Patricia has always passed on her passion and enthusiasm to the young people she teaches and is a highly respected colleague, teacher and individual.
“[Patricia] has been the font of knowledge, the helping hand and the caring voice at the end of the phone.” (Shane Murphy).
